The family members of Balwinder Singh, who has been arrested by West Bengal police for carrying a firearm at a rally organised by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), met senior police officers late on Friday night.
After the assembly, family members together with Mr. Singh’s spouse, Karamjit Kaur, stated they’ve been assured that circumstances towards her husband can be withdrawn. Mr. Singh is within the custody of Howrah police and the event signifies that the standoff between the federal government and the family might ease out.
Earlier, the family had threatened to take a seat on starvation strike outdoors the State Secretariat. Mr. Singh was arrested on October 8, in the course of the BJP march to the State Secretariat. During the scuffle with the police his turban got here off, triggering an issue. Several BJP leaders had stated that the incident has damage sentiments of individuals of Sikh group. Mr. Singh, a personal safety guard, was employed by an area BJP chief. His family has stated that the weapon he was carrying had a firearm which had a license.
Meanwhile, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar requested the State authorities to “immediately release” Balwinder Singh and withdraw circumstances towards him.
“A delegation of Ex Servicemen Veterans called on me seeking immediate release, withdrawal of case #BalwinderSingh. Painful case of gross human right abuse and police highhandedness @WBPolice @HomeBengal. Appeal @MamataOfficial to forthwith #Balvindrasingh and withdraw case,” he tweeted.
