Mumbai: A Mumbai courtroom on Wednesday granted bail to Republic Media Network’s Chief Executive Officer Vikas Khanchandani, who was arrested within the alleged TRP (Television Rating Points) rigging rip-off. Khanchandaniwas arrested on Sunday from his residence right here by the police’s Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU).
A metropolitan Justice of the Peace courtroom granted bail to Khanchandani on a money surety of Rs 50,000, his lawyer Niteen Pradhan knowledgeable. The police started a probe into the alleged rip-off after scores company Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) filed a criticism via Hansa Research Agency about rigging of TRP by some channels.
TRP, measured by recording viewership information at pattern households, is essential for attracting advertisers. The BARC engaged Hansa to put in and keep barometers which file TV viewership information at pattern households.
It was alleged that a few of these households had been being bribed to tune into sure channels to ramp up their TRP. In a cost sheet filed lately, the police alleged that an official of Hansa paid cash to pattern households to tune into Box Cinema, Fakt Marathi, Maha Movie and Republic TV.
The Republic TV has denied any wrongdoing. The police have up to now arrested 13 individuals in reference to the case.
