Violence and crime towards women will come down if there’s a provision that mandates males and women to control the nation for two-and-a-half years every, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam mentioned on Thursday.
Speaking at a seminar on elimination of violence towards women, organised by the Department of Planning and Development, Mr. Panneerselvam mentioned, “Why shouldn’t men and women rule the country for two-and-a-half years each? If such an opportunity is granted through the Constitution, there will be equality in society, and violence against women will come down.”
He mentioned in such a situation, there can be a giant change in society. He mentioned he would talk about with the Chief Minister the problems raised in the course of the seminar, together with offering coaching to these within the judiciary and the police, to assist women get entry to justice.
He mentioned violence towards women in a civilised society is a violation of human rights and there’s a have to take steps to take away the sufferings of women and youngsters who’ve been affected by violence.
“There is a need for us to increase punishment and bring in change in societal mentality on issues such as violence against women. There is a need to increase awareness among officials on these issues,” he mentioned.
