India has offered 1.54 billion Nepalese Rupees (INR almost 96 crore) to Nepal as a part of its dedication in direction of help and rehabilitation after the 2015 earthquake which noticed the dying of over 9,000 individuals within the nation, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu mentioned on Thursday.

The monetary help was offered as housing and faculty sector help and would additional assist in the renovation of academic establishments and homes for the individuals affected within the pure catastrophe.

“The Government of India has provided 1.54 billion Nepali Rupees to Nepal further fulfilling its commitment towards post-earthquake reconstruction assistance,” the Indian Embassy mentioned in an announcement.

Namgyal Khampa, the Deputy Chief of Mission on the Indian Embassy, handed over the cheque amounting to Nepali Rupees 1.54 billion to Sishir Kumar Dhungana, Secretary, Nepal’s Ministry of Finance.

“India has expressed commitment to help rebuild 50,000 private houses in Gorkha and Nuwakot districts, which were destroyed due to the 2015 great earthquake. Of them, 92% construction works have already been completed,” the assertion mentioned.

“India remains committed to continuing supporting the people and Government of Nepal in their post-earthquake recovery efforts,” it mentioned.

Earlier, India additionally partnered with the United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Office for Project Services for offering socio-technical facilitation to the home house owners to be certain that they rebuild their properties as per Nepal authorities’s earthquake-resilient norms.

Central Nepal’s Gorkha district was the epicentre of the devastating earthquake which struck the Himalayan nation in April 2015, claiming over 9,000 lives and damaging 8,00,000 homes.

“Nepalese officials have appreciated the sustained and generous humanitarian support extended by India for the post-earthquake reconstruction,” the assertion mentioned.

India and Nepal in February 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for $100-million grant to help the reconstruction of 50,000 personal homes within the two districts of the Himalayan nation.
