A complete of 7.37 lakh voters will determine the destiny of 305 candidates contesting within the third part of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. State Election Commissioner (SEC) Ok Ok Sharma on Thursday mentioned sufficient safety preparations have been made in all constituencies going to polls.
Urging individuals to comply with all COVID-19 tips whereas exercising their franchise, he mentioned sanitisers, thermal scanners and face masks have been organized at polling stations. The DDC elections and panchayat bypolls are being held in eight phases from November 28 to December 19. The counting of votes can be completed on December 22.
Giving particulars concerning the DDC elections, Sharma mentioned there are a complete 280 constituencies within the UT, out of which voting can be carried out in 33 constituencies, together with 16 from Kashmir division and 17 from Jammu division, from 7 am to 2 pm. A complete 305 candidates, together with 166 from Kashmir division and 139 from Jammu division, are contesting for the DDC polls. Out of these 305 candidates, 252 are male, whereas 53 are feminine.
Sharma mentioned 7,37,648 persons are eligible to forged their votes within the third part of DDC polls. Talking about by-elections for sarpanchs, he mentioned out of 126 constituencies, polling will happen in 66 constituencies and a complete of 184 candidates are within the fray.
Forty sarpanch constituencies have been crammed unopposed. Similarly, in panch by-elections, there are 1,738 constituencies, and out of them 798 have been elected unopposed, he mentioned, including that voting will happen in 327 constituencies and 749 candidates are within the fray.
